The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research institutions throughout Germany and is the world’s leading applied research organization. Around 30 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 2.9 billion euros.
The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg is the largest solar research institute in Europe. Our approximately 1,400 employees work towards a sustainable, economic, secure and socially just energy supply system based on renewable energies. We contribute to this with our main research areas of energy supply, energy distribution, energy storage and energy use. Through outstanding research results, successful industrial projects, company spin-offs and global collaborations, we are shaping the sustainable transformation of the energy system.
You want to actively shape the energy transition and be part of a highly motivated team? Then let us contribute to this together with the development of processes and technologies for renovation and for building-integrated photovoltaics. With us, you will work as a PhD student on the realization of this goal. Together we develop, plan and evaluate solutions to increase the energy efficiency of building envelopes and the integration of solar systems.
What you will do
- Your tasks include the research and development of processes and digital tools for the automated planning of prefabricated modular façade systems.
- You will help to systematize the different phases of the construction process, stakeholders involved and the exchange of information.
- The goal of your work is the development of methods for the automated planning and configuration of building envelope modules (fasteners, insulation panels, technical equipment, façade panels and/or building-integrated photovoltaic systems).
- You will investigate artificial intelligence approaches and parameterized models, consider important aspects of prefabricated building envelopes such as robotic assembly, ease of maintenance, reliability, sustainability, and aesthetics.
- You incorporate ecological criteria into the planning process in your work.
- You enjoy the practical implementation in pilot installations and the practical implementation in the construction industry.
What you bring to the table
- You have a university degree in architecture, civil engineering, supply engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or computer science.
- You have good knowledge of planning processes and facade systems and have already acquired knowledge in the field of building-integrated photovoltaics.
- It is important to you to contribute to your team and to achieve common goals in interdisciplinary cooperation.
- You have proven programming experience and IT affinity.
- You have already successfully demonstrated your excellent written and spoken German and English skills.
What you can expect
