Transportation Specialist - VSSR
The Transportation Specialist is responsible for providing transportation services to veterans aged 55+ with high acuity and who reside in permanent supportive housing (PSH) projects. The responsibilities of the Transportation Specialist include providing transportation services for tenants during and after regular business hours to specific locations within the Los Angeles area, completing appropriate documentation, including incident reports, being on time for all stops and pick-ups, and working with daytime treatment staff to ensure veterans are delivered safely to and from their destinations.
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Responsibilities:
- Transport veterans to and from the designated route stops.
- Conduct safety checks on the shuttle before every use.
- Ensure that the shuttle vehicle/van is fueled, well-maintained, and presentable at all times.
- Arrive at collection points prior to departure times.
- Confirm that all veterans are present and record and report any no-shows to your supervisor.
- Ensure adherence to passenger limits is followed in terms of seating capacity.
- Avoid high-traffic and accident-prone routes, where possible.
- Record and report all accidents and/or parking violations and incidents to your supervisor.
- Ensure that veterans disembark at the correct destinations safely and in a timely manner.
- Ensure that the vehicle is not left unattended at any time when there are passengers on board. If you are required to leave the vehicle, you must turn the vehicle off and ensure that it is properly parked and secured.
- Observe all relevant traffic and safety laws.
- Attend required meetings and training.
- Perform other related duties assigned by supervisory personnel
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Valid California drivers license with P designation in order to drive up to a 15-passenger van and auto insurance required. Travel between all housing sites is required (mileage reimbursed)
- Driver history report, which meets company insurance requirements to drive a company vehicle and complete a provided driver training course upon hire.
- Must pass all requirements set forth by applicable transportation and State agencies and be able to provide proper documentation
- Previous experience driving groups of people
- Knowledge of applicable transport and safety codes
- First Aid training is preferred at hire but will be required before driving any U.S.VETS vehicle(s)
- Working knowledge of pertinent car maintenance preferred.
- Ability to engage clients while maintaining appropriate boundaries
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team member
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Computer literacy
- Translatable military experience and skills may be alternatively substituted
- Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population, including embracing the agencys Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiative
