Applications are invited for the RF Engineer – Tier 3 position to be based in the Northern Region
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
RF Engineers are responsible for the planning, maintenance and health of the entire wireless network. Nothing get done without prior planning and knowing what the outcome will be.
Key Performance Areas would include, but are not limited to:
- Monitoring: doing PtMP (Point to Multi Point) analytics on a schedule provided by Tier 4.
- Doing PTP (Point to Point) analytics on a schedule provided by Tier 4.
- Do proactive frequency analysis on all sites.
- Proactively via network monitoring, identify where problems might occur and act before client's services get impacted.
- Planning: Plan everything to be done on the wireless network in detail, from frequency changes to complete new build.
- Provide Installers and High Site Technicians with detailed scope of work to be performed.
- High site tech support: Assist High Site Technicians with alignments, tilts etc.
- Installer support: Responsible for the link quality of each install on the network.
- Calculate each signal for every new install as well as alignments. If target cannot be reached, find fault either at high site or install, plan how to fix and hand over to High Site Technicians.
- Helpdesk support & skills transfer: Assist Helpdesk with problem tickets, train and advise Helpdesk on RF related issues.
- Root cause analysis and fault finding: be able to do root cause analysis, fix the problem first time through proper planning.
- Obtain approval from Team Leader when working with any equipment.
- Configuration of equipment.
- Preform link budget on PTP links to achieve desired availability and throughput.
- Coordinate change management with Access Network, NOC and Helpdesk or any relevant stream.
The successful candidate must have the following experience/skills:
- Minimum 2 years RF related working experience.
- Intermediate troubleshooting skills.
- Intermediate understanding of RF fundamentals.
- Competent in configuration and troubleshooting all major RF equipment used (Cambium, Ubiquiti, Mikrotik).
- Planning experience is advantageous.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Relevant drafting programmes experience is advantageous.
- Advanced numerical skills.
- Intermediate data management skills.
- Intermediate problem solving skills.
- Intermediate analytical skills.
- Intermediate communication and customer service skills.
Education Requirements:
- Grade 12.
- Networking essentials (N+).
- RF Certifications preferrable (Cambium, Ubiquiti, Mikrotik).
- Any relevant Tertiary Qualification will be advantageous (i.e. Electrical Engineering)
